I know this is old, but I just found out at the local library.
Warsaw, AL was first named Jamestown in 1832 probably for the first permanent English colony in Virginia. Later named Warsaw in 1842 after Warsaw, Virginia - the former home of some of the earliest settlers.
And for those truly interested Warsaw, VA was named in 1831 in sympathy for the Polish struggle for liberty.

Of course, many of the odder named towns here are after Native American names.
