Darcy, who was awakened as soon as Elizabeth had started to stir, finally gave in to the urge of laughing at his wife’s ministrations. He now stretched out in the bed waiting for her to return. Finally, when the bed seemed to him insupportably cold and empty, he rose and decided to fill his time. He put on his robe and took a letter that he had left unopened on the small desk.
The news was good. His solicitor was informing him that Mr. de Bourgh was traced and his debts purchased on behalf of Mr. Darcy. Darcy took a sheet of a paper and wrote back instructing that Mr. de Bourgh should be contacted immediately and offered a two-week period to pay back his dues, or the choice of leaving the Kingdom for ever under the threat of prison. He felt positive that the problem would be solved definitely before he would take Elizabeth to Pemberley. Darcy sealed the letter and looked around wondering what was occupying his wife for so long. Finally he went in search of her.
