Oh, I wondered if anyone would recognize Tom Waits, but I forgot about the Europeans, lol. I think he's much more popular here than in the US. I had the pleasure of being at his concert in Warsaw some years ago. The only one he agreed to give in Europe, so our Palace of Culture became quite a multinational place for one evening because people from all over Europe came to see him.
The piece was written yet in the old times when we were having the real RPG on Austenesque. It wasn't planned, but Darcy had his birthday, or at least I decided he did, and Georgiana had only a puppy for Brougham and nothing for her brother. (I'm still not really cured from the puppy problem, lol.) So Darcy got drunk for the occasion, and from the Rain Dogs through Independent as a hog on ice Tina recognized Waits and joined in the game, which we considered then as our private one, because no one else noticed.
Well, since both Tina and I come from two countries with very long vodka traditions, we enjoy the drinking threads enormously. Probably no country has ever had more kinds of vodka than Poland, but still Finlandia is really good, and it is a very big compliment when comes from a Pole! The majority of vodkas popular all over the world is considered by Poles undrinkable (esp the Russian ones), lol. Also, in Poland the word vodka which literally means "little water" refers to all alcohols from 20 to 95% vol. So brandy, whiskey etc are in Poland vodkas as well. Then whatever Darcy drinks it's either vodka, beer, or wine. Well, since in the old times water was considered poisonous, they had to drink something.
