Better late than never, Annmarie. Thanks for sharing. Now is there anyone out there whose #1 favorite is not Pride and Prejudice?
I'm with you regarding the backlog of books to read. I have a stack of JA biographies to finish reading, in addition to a number of books by Edith Wharton. I found renewed interest in her from watching the newly released DVD of The Buccaneers. I've read her major works (The Age of Innocence and The House of Mirth) but have now gotten hold of a number of lesser-known works, the aforementioned The Buccaneers plus The Mother's Recompense, The Children, Twilight Sleep.
And, yes, please give Northanger Abbey another chance. I find it to be a quite an amusing short burlesque. Sometimes, when I don't have the time to reread, I turn to the audiobook. Not nearly as tiring, and if you have previously read the book, it does not take a lot of concentration to take in the narration. Just this past week, I have "reread" Mansfield Park, Persuasion, Pride and Prejudice and parts of Emma. I feel the need to review them when the biography of JA I'm reading goes into discussing the particular books.
