LOL I always find it interesting how usually everyone is in an agreement about P&P, often Persuasion also, but from there the lists start to considerably defer. So here's mine:
- Pride and Prejudice
- Persuasion
- Sense and Sensibility
- Mansfield Park
- Emma
- Northanger Abbey
However, although I'm sure Northanger Abbey was my least favourite, and P&P and Persuasion I liked most and reread them several times, I couldn't say for sure how the list of the remaining three should look like. I actually loved Emma for her weakness, but also for her ability to admit her mistakes. I liked Mansfield Park and Fanny, however I'm not a big fan of Edmund. I wish he had as much strength as she did. And I liked S&S for the imperfectness of all the main characters. Oh, and maybe also because Elinor reminds my old school friend very much.
I know that Jane Austen was avoiding things that were not familiar to herself, however, it's not true that she never wrote an exchange between men not accompanied by women. There was one actually. How about Tony's thinking of a prize for the person who knows where!
