Lazienki Park is inside Warsaw today, however when the king decided to settle there it was outside the town. Lazienki means bathrooms in modern Polish, but the name derives from times where there were baths like in Bath, so that's how we translate the name today. However, you're right, the park still makes for the biggest bathroom all over the world. Here's the satellite picture. King Stanislaw bought the place when he was chosen a king in 1764 and started rebuilding and redesigning. At the end of the century the former bath house was turned into the palace, however, many buildings were raised even later during the first three decades of 19th century.

The Palace on the Water that illustrates the Lizzy and Darcy story pages was the king's country residence (his main place as a king's was still Warsaw's Royal Castle). The park itself is designed mostly in the English style, and the many buildings situated there are all faithful to the neo-Classicist architecture of Jane Austen's times.

The park, very modern in late 18th and early 19th century, reflected the liberal and democratic views and ideas of our last king. Under the rule of Stanislaw August Poniatowski Poland gained May 3 Constitution (first in Europe and second in the world), and the Commission of National Education regarded as the first Ministry of Education in the world, guaranteeing secular and equal education for both girls and boys. The king is also famous for holding the Thursday Dinners that served preserving Polish culture even during the Partitions of Poland. The king traditionally dined with prominent figures of Polish intellectual life, discussing literature, art, and politics.

The amphitheatre is called the Theatre on the Isle, there is also another theatre in the building of the Old Orangery. Also, Belweder - the house of Polish president is situated there.

I was wondering which of the park's buildings would make the best award for you, until I came with this one.

It's the Astronomical Observatory of Warsaw University founded in 1825.

Enjoy the starry sky above you!

I took Laura there, of course, however we didn't have enough time to see all of the buildings there. I'll let her give her opinion by herself, she should be home soon.

You definitely should see it one day,

Sylwia
