Hi everyone, I'm glad you are enjoying the story, it makes writing it that much enjoyable. Unfortunately this is my busiest time of year, but I'm writing as often as I can.
Mo - Lizzy will make it to Kent. She has so much free time there and so much to do!
Margaret F - When I read P&P I always got the impression that Lizzy's closet friends (Aunt G, Jane, Charlotte) didn't like Wickham, and tried to steer Lizzy away from him. There are also a few insights into Wickham's character early on, for instance when they parted (she was leaving for Kent) and it was "perfectly friendly; on his side even more."
Stacy - Lizzy realizes she has no future with Wickham because neither have any money, but I think he is starting to make her uncomfortable. As for the note and book, he sort of placed them in her hands and left.
Fatima & RitaSV - Here's a short explanation of how Lizzy and Wickham are. Imagine this Lizzy as a 16 year old girl living in a small town. She's popular, witty, can play basketball with the boys, but never really dates any of them. Why? It's a small town and maybe they are a little bit intimidated by her. Then she gets invited on a date with her wilder cousin and her college-age boyfriend and his friend. Her mother of course makes her go.
The friend (Wickham) is very good-looking, several years older, and used to getting what he wants, and he's a cad. He knows to keep girls a little off balance is best. Lizzy is used to the local boys, who might shove her to get the basketball, but would never attempt anything else improper. Wickham is fun to be around. Everyone likes him and he's very popular. It's an honor to be his date. Then he puts his arm around her at the movies (not so bad), but later... Well, it's Wickham, you get the idea. Lizzy is a little shocked. Yes, she's witty and forthright, but in this case she's kept a little off balance. She's naive. She's been to London, but no one has ever dared cross those boundaries. He knows he can go too far, so it's just the little instances. Plus, they are somewhat daringly romantic, and he is the best-looking, most-popular guy in town.
By the time she leaves for Kent, he is getting a little creepy, but she's polite. Notice quote from P&P above. I even felt icky having to write Wickham's POV and actions, but that's just the way he is.
Darcy, meanwhile, thought if he left, Wickham would leave Lizzy alone because she had no money. He also knew Wickham wouldn't dishonor her because her family was too high socially (there's plenty of places for that and he could get in a lot of trouble with the militia). Also Wickham doesn't fall in love. So, no Darcy, no problem for Lizzy. As loveable as Darcy is, he can be thick sometimes.
Since I am following along with the book, it is Miss King that Wickham has become attached to.
Sylwia - You know I'm a research nut, so I really enjoy looking up anything that might have happened in their time period.
