My situation was that I was reading at work (in a fairly large room) and someone came to speak with my Polish co-worker. My concentration was broken by the apparent sound of buzzing flies--this became more irritating, not because of the volume, but the type of sound. It seems I may have a visceral reaction to the sound of Polish.
